Dear Friends,

We are gathered here at this hour to witness and celebrate the drawing
together of two
separate lives.
We have come so that this man, _____, and this woman, ______, may be joined
in
marriage. It is not to be entered into lightly, but with certainty, mutual
respect, and with
a sense of reverence, which does not preclude beauty, humor, or joy.

As we know, no clergyman, no public official can marry you. Only you can
wed
one
another, by a mutual committment to love each other, to work toward
creating
an
atmosphere of care, consideration, and respect by a willingness to weather
the storms
that underlie human life as well as its boundless joy.

The wedding vow is much more than a contract, a mere piece of paper. It is
a
covenant,
a sacred personal vow. Matrimony symbolizes the ultimate intimacy between a
man and
a woman. This closeness not diminishing, but enhancing the individuality of
each partner.

Marriage is a union of two lives in one love, and we can derive no moral
from love, except
to love more deeply. We can expect nothing from love except that love
gives.
We cannot
choose what chances and changes may befall us, but we can shape the spirit
with which we
shall meet them.

Getting to the Truth

Hello everyone,
I just recently joined Tribe Net and I have been too busy to look for friends. I have made some discoveries since I've found this site. In fact so many discoveries that I have started my own tribe. It is called Walking to Reality. I am aware that only God knows what reality is and shows whatever He choses to show us. In my life I have been all over the place trying to find out why there is so much happening in this world that "appears" to be against God. Man, when He opens a persons eyes He does not mess around. I found enough answers to give me another list of questions.
Anyway, this is an invitation to check out my tribe. I have discovered that for "a very long time" (to say the least) there has been a major effort going on to hide the Word of God. Now if you already know this, please don't laugh too hard at me and simply in your heart extend a welcome me.
My Tribe is listed under politics/government because after all it is God's world and He is the answer to all of our troubles today, from the extremly serious troubles to the small ones.

My boyfriend was involved in a hit and run accident, he only left the seen because he was dazed, the other person received a single stitch so it is now a felony charge.
he has been in jail 60 days now and his trial is coming up on the 22nd, can you help me by saying a single prayer for him?
I love him so much and just want him home as soon as possible.

ULC Pres., Rev. Lida Hensley, Dies

I am emailing to let you know that my Mother passed away on 12/31/06. She
had fallen at home on Christmas Eve Morning and broke her hip. They did
surgery on 12/27/06 to repair the brake. She was expected to be transferred
to a rehab facility for a few weeks the day she passed. They believe that
she had a blood clot and passed in her sleep peacefully.

We will be having a Memorial service here at the church on 01/14/07 at 10
am. That would have been her 82nd birthday. Her wish was to be cremated and
her ashes buried with my Father's at a family cemetery in North Carolina.
Their wedding anniversary is July 19th so we have decided that would be a
good time for the family to gather together and bury their ashes at the same
time.

On the 14th there will be a Church Board meeting to elect a new President.
Until then everything will remain the same.

This is the same Web site at which you can become an ordained minister for free.

And order a "Ministry-in-a-Box" for $139.
And order your certification as a Jedi Knight for only $4.50.
The site is also at the center of a bitter struggle between church leaders over a house in Tucson, church money and the Web site itself, a key church asset. Daniel Zimmerman, the monastery's CEO of the past several years and a Tucson resident, claims control of the monastery has been wrested from him by George Freeman, a former vice president of the organization who once ran a Seattle church — popularly regarded as a notorious nightclub where teens could find group sex and drugs — called The Monastery.
The Universal Life Church Monastery is an independent offshoot of the original Universal Life Church in Modesto, Calif., a nondenominational church that boasts it has ordained more than 20 million people around the world. Those ordinations are used for everything from performing marriage ceremonies to offering comfort to hospice patients, some here in Tucson.
Zimmerman says that no less than the validity of some marriages and the baptism of countless babies is at risk. How? Online requests for ordination after Aug. 1 were processed by Freeman, who is no longer recognized by the Arizona Corporation Commission as an officer of the church. Because of that, those ministers may not be legally ordained, Zimmerman said.
More tangibly, Zimmerman and Freeman want control of church assets that include $129,000 in cash, a 1,900-square-foot East Side home that was bought in 2002 for $160,000 and the church's widely visited Web site (www.themonastery.org), which has more than 2,800 registered users and which Freeman says is worth $15 million, thanks in part to the sales made there.
Corporation Commission notified
In February, Freeman filed paperwork with the Arizona Corporation Commission stating that the organization's board of directors voted to remove Zimmerman as CEO because he engaged in "fraudulent conduct," conducted himself in a manner unbecoming a board member and because of a recent arrest in which Zimmerman cursed at a Qwest employee in Park Place mall upon learning a new cell phone might not be activated right away.
Zimmerman, 58, said "he could blow this place up along with all the other stores," according to a Tucson police report.
For a while, the Corporation Commission recognized Freeman's claim to lead the Universal Life Church Monastery. But then it was decided that Freeman's documents were "accepted in error here at the commission," said Heather Murphy, a commission spokeswoman.
That error has been corrected and, according to the commission, Zimmerman is now recognized as the organization's CEO.
"He came back to the Arizona Corporation Commission and was able to bamboozle them somehow," Freeman said of Zimmerman.
Although Freeman has again tried to file paperwork arguing he is CEO, that paperwork has been rejected, Murphy said.
"We have no legal basis upon which to accept those filings, so they have actually been returned to Mr. Freeman," Murphy said."Bottom line is, this is a dispute between individuals over control over the church."
John Knew, a local Universal Life Church minister, said he's familiar with the struggle between Zimmerman and Freeman. "I have to admit, we have a little worry there," Knew said.
Bona fides dubious
Regardless of the unity among the Universal Life Church Monastery's leadership, the legitimacy of the church's ordinations presents a deeper concern, according to the Rev. Gordon McBride, the rector of Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church 2331 E. Adams St. in Midtown.
"I think we need to protect the integrity of our certification processes and our ordination and our degree certificates," McBride said.
McBride said the process for becoming ordained through the Episcopal church might be described as "Byzantine," requiring years of seminary study as well as the support of a congregation.
Both Zimmerman and Freeman have questionable activities in their backgrounds.
After his recent arrest, Zimmerman, whose speech is often peppered with obscenities, completed a diversion program, and his City Court charge was dropped. But that wasn't his first run-in with the law. More than 20 years ago, he was convicted in U.S. District Court in the northern district of Iowa on charges of participating in a conspiracy to hinder and hamper the IRS. Zimmerman, who said he served more than two years in a federal prison "camp" in Kansas, denies he violated any federal laws in that case.
Freeman said the tarnished reputation in Seattle of his original Monastery is unjustified. He provided food and shelter to Salvadoran refugees and the homeless, he said.
But parents and local newspapers vilified that operation as a home of illicit acts, and King County prosecutors filed a civil lawsuit that resulted in an injunction that closed it down in 1985. Freeman said the only illicit activity was that some minors sold drugs to undercover police officers.
"Bad guys don't stand in my camp," Freeman said.
Zimmerman claims victory
For now, Freeman has the $129,000 and control of the Web site. But Zimmerman is fighting to retain control of the church's nondescript house near East Golf Links and South Harrison roads.
As for determining who is actually entitled to run the Universal Life Church Monastery, as a legal entity in Arizona, that's something that would have to be decided by a Superior Court judge, said Matthew Sweger, a lawyer with Lewis and Roca. And neither party has sued.
"The documents on file with the Arizona Corporation Commission are generally reliable, but this is the kind of thing that can happen when you have an open filing system. The ACC relies on the perjury statute as a way of screening dubious filings," Sweger said.
In the future, Freeman said, he hopes to have the monastery begin new "good works" campaigns. He's also sent what amounts to an appeal to the Corporation Commission. And he plans to continue on as leader of the church.
Zimmerman said he's willing to relinquish responsibility of the church if he receives a retirement package worth several hundred thousand dollars he claims was promised to him when he joined the church decades ago.
In a voice mail left Friday, Zimmerman said, "We have prevailed, and we're negotiating for a settlement."

Thought I'd introduce myself;
I'm a mom living in New Hampshire and I've been a ULC clergy since 2002. Just recently my own mother became a ULC minister.
I haven't really had the chance to read all the discussions here yet, so this may have been asked and answered already but... I'm wondering what made you decide to become ordained? I know for myself it was because my personal belief system really didn't "fit" into any specific religious catagory. I knew some other people who felt the same way, and I liked the idea of being able to perform spiritual ceremonies for them that would be completely focused on their beleifs- not just a belief system that they MOSTLY agreed with. So I'm wondering if anyone else had similar reasons?

Is Germany in Danger of Backsliding?

Germany's "conversion" from Nazism to democracy was forced on it by the victors of WWII.

We left it up to the Germans to "deNazify" their country! Now Germany appears to be backsliding as the Nazi German spirit is beginning to stir again, getting ready to break free from imposed shackles with a fury, and come back with a vengeance from the abyss, threatening to wreak havoc upon the world.

This is documented within GERMANY AND THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE.

It appears mankind continues its march of folly and refuses to learn, and rejects the biblical principles of strong leadership as manifest in great British-Israelite heroes like Winston S. Churchill.

For the record, I've been throughout Germany four times and have had German roommates while serving as a volunteer in various kibbutzim in Israel, and have nothing against individual Germans and believe their country is very beautiful, and am definitely German-American, in large part.

I love the German people enough to help warn them to be very wary of any crisis that will tempt them to just blindly follow the leader about to emerge, who will be presented as Europe's savior from nuclear Islam, by none other than the pope and the Vatican's political puppets. Yes, beware the beast! The Bible exposes Europe will experience another wannabe divine emperor.

I believe that most Germans are merely naive or ordinary citizens (like this country), but that the powers that be behind the scenes, the real rulers of Germany, are intent on misleading and manipulating the German army and people again to form their final and Fourth Reich, just as Bible prophecy warns.

Growing evidence of this troubling trend was clearly manifest in the Balkans, where Germany led the assault against our faithful WWII allies, the Serbs, and raped and destroyed Yugoslavia and slaughtered the Orthodox, all as groundwork for their unholy Roman Empire of the German Nation.

How did Germany do this when the German constitution forbids it? The United States were useful idiots for Germany and the bloody Vatican under our shameful president, Bill Clinton, and helped to do their dirty work for them in lockstep with NATO (the same NATO/UN/EU forces about to be used and abused in the Middle East, wolves in sheep's clothing, "peacekeepers" with their evil eye on Jerusalem).

By foolishly aiding and abetting German hegemony throughout Europe, we are actually helping to create the Frankenstein Monster that will destroy us! Margaret Thatcher couldn't have been more right.

Spirituality or Religion?

Someone asked why people leave a church. I started to post a reply and then decided I'd be interested in more discussion on the topic. I hope that is okay.

So...

Spirituality and religion are not the same thing.

I say: "Religion is the codification of one person's enlightenment experience."

We cannot live Jesus, Buddha, Mother Teresa or anyone else's life. We have to find our own path inside ouselves. Focusing too heavily on external other people takes us *away* from the inner path.

Certainly these luminaries are guides. But every single one of them told us to "seek first the Kingdom of Heaven *within*" Church and religion are external to our Selves.

hey all, I've been a ULC minister since 2002 but only just now found this tribe. A little background: I was born and raised in a JW family, baptised in 1990 and left in early 1997. Pretty much stayed out of the religion scene until joining the U.S. Army in 2002 and when I came back home after being discharged for scoliosis I found the ULC website. Still playing the down low religiously but happy that I had a title now (my friends who like me didn't take it seriously called me The Rev) I lived a normal life until earlier this year. On Feb. 4 I was traveling through Nevada headed east when I fell asleep at the wheel, awoke to the sound of my tires hitting gravel and overcorrected the wheel... twice. As I felt the driver's side lift off the ground I simply said "Your will be done" meaning if I was to die so be it, if not apparently I had not served my purpose here on this Earth. I managed to survive (obviously) only injury was breaking 2 vertabrae in my neck and now have a greater appreciation for the Supreme Being. I'm thinking I'm going to have to review my belief system. Well, that's all for now, good to meet fellow members of the cloth.

A progressive politics of meaning

I have just read an article by the Publisher of Tikkun magazine; Rabbi Michael Lerner titled; "After the Fall: Why America Needs a Spiritual Left". Although I do not make a blanket endorsement of Rabbi Lerner or Tikkun Magazine I haven't read anything of this calibre in many years. Here are some excerpts from the article:

Most people want to live in a different world, but most are very skeptical that such a world is possible. They have been so deeply indoctrinated into a depressive belief that no one else will ever respond to the vision of the good to which they themselves resonate, they have become so deeply committed to the alleged truth that everyone else is either too stupid or too evil to ever transcend the materialism and selfishness that governs this society, that they effectively remain cheerleaders for the very cynical realism that they simultaneously despise. It is this duality in people, the desire for spiritual transcendence and the despair about its possibility in the case of “the Other,” that presents the central challenge for a Politics of Meaning. Undermining that depressive resignation will take incredible levels of creativity, psychological sensitivity, spiritual awareness, and political courage.

A progressive politics of meaning does not require that one believe in a Supreme Being, much less the specific God that has been taught in orthodox versions of Christianity, Judaism, or Islam. But it does require a recognition that many people want more from their lives than an accumulation of comforts, pleasures, and material goodies. We want more than power, more than fame, more than sexual conquest'we actually want to connect our lives to something of transcendent importance the value of which will continue beyond our own individual life. Counter to the empiricist and scientific reductionism that sometimes gets confused with rational thought, the Politics of Meaning insists that not everything real or important can be quantified or verified through sense-data. The deepest human desires—the desires for loving connection, for transcendent meaning to life, and for justice and peace (not just for ourselves but for others)—are rooted in what we call a spiritual conception of the world.

a Global Marshall Plan in which the United States would lead all the advanced industrial societies in dedicating 5 percent of our GNP for each of the next twenty years to eliminate global poverty, hunger, inadequate education, and inadequate health care, and to rebuild the economic infrastructure of the entire globe in ways that would be both ecologically sustainable and socially just.

A little research project I did awhile back

The One True Religion

Recently, while reading a Jehovah’s Witness publication called Mankind’s Search for God, I hit upon an interesting theory.

Paragraph twenty-eight of chapter two in said publication tells us etymologists, or linguistic experts, will put languages side by side and examine the similarities when trying to find the origin of language. It goes on to say the same could be done with religions. By examining the doctrines, legends, rituals and ceremonies, we could “see if there is any underlying thread of common identity and, if so, to what that thread leads us.” Paragraph thirty-three clearly states: “the similarity in the basic concepts of the many religions of the world is strong evidence that they did not begin each in its own separate and independent way. Rather, going back far enough, their ideas must have come from a common origin.” Let me repeat that last part: “…their ideas must have come from a common origin.” As if to prove this point paragraphs 34-38 talk about how many beliefs have in their myths a “Golden Age” or time of perfection, and how, one way or another, we lost it. Chapter three paragraphs 9-19 further proves this point by discussing many religions believing in the Great Flood.

Now, here’s where things start to get a little muddy, paragraphs 20-29 discuss many religions believing in the immortal soul, whether through reincarnation or heaven and hell or other beliefs, which the Bible flatly denies in Ezekiel 18:4: “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (KJV) What happened to the “similarities in the basic concepts of the religions of the world… must have come from a common origin”?

From what my limited layperson research indicates, these similarities seem to die off around the time of what biblical scholars call the “Tower of Babel”. Chapter three of Mankind’s Search for God states: “Although they separated, forming families and tribes with different languages, they started off with the same basic understanding of prior history and religious concepts. Over the centuries, this understanding became distorted and adorned in each culture, resulting in the many fictions, legends and myths that have come down to us today.” In the back of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, the Jehovah’s Witnesses very own Bible, there is a “Table of the Books of the Bible” which shows Moses writing Genesis in 1513 B.C.E. and shows the book of Genesis as covering “In the beginning” to 1657 B.C.E. The two dates we have, 1657 B.C.E. to 1513 B.C.E., are already 147 years apart, and who knows how long before 1657 B.C.E. the Tower of Babel was, let alone “in the beginning”?

Therefore, my answer to the immortal soul vs. the Bible is this: by the time Moses wrote Genesis, the history of the creation through the Tower of Babel “became distorted and adorned” to fit the history of the Hebrew people, and everything after the Tower of Babel in the Bible including the New Testament was originally meant to be for the Jewish faith.

But does this mean that Jesus Christ died only for the sins of the Jewish people? Well, yes and no. The person known as Jesus died for the sins of the world, but his target audience, if you will, were the Hebrew people. In Matthew 15:24 Jesus himself says “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But, in my opinion, this was not the first time he died for the sins of the people of the world. My basis for this opinion is simple, the whole “side by side” theory of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Many religions believe that a man born of God and mankind died for our sins. In ancient Egypt he was called Osiris, in Greece he was Dionysus, in Asia Minor called Attis, in Syria his name was Adonis, in Italy it was Baccus, and in Persia he was named Mithras. All these pagan “godmen”, though centuries apart, had many things in common with the biblical Jesus Christ. A few examples include:

- All turned water into wine at a wedding ceremony
- All rode a donkey into town while people waved palm leaves to honor them
- All died around the time we now know as Easter as a sacrifice for the sins of the world
- On the third day after their death they rose from the dead and later ascend to heaven
- Their death and resurrection were celebrated by a ritual meal of bread and wine, which symbolized their body and blood

There are more examples of these similarities listed in The Jesus Mysteries: Was the “Original” Jesus a Pagan God?.

Five centuries before Jesus walked the earth a man now referred to as Buddha taught similar themes to what Jesus did. Also, while talking about Buddha, I feel I should point out two things I have pulled from the book Jesus and Buddha: the parallel sayings. First is about the birth of Buddha “when the Bodhisattva had descended into his mother’s womb, no sensual thought arose in her concerning men, and she was inaccessible to any man having a lustful mind.”(Majjhima Nikaya 123.10) And, second when Buddha died: “At the blessed Lord’s final passing there was a great earthquake, terrible and hair raising, accompanied by thunder.” (Digha Nikaya 16.6.10) Sound familiar?

I’m sure, if further research were done, the Christ legend would pop up in other religions and myths.

So what do I believe? I believe that at one point in time we, as a people, were perfect and that somehow we lost that perfection. I believe that God saw mankind’s wickedness and caused a great flood to wash away the wicked. But somewhere the religion we originally started off with “…became distorted and adorned in each culture, resulting in the many fictions, legends and myths…” that we have today. I believe that God sent his son, several times, to die for our sins, but the time that finally got the greatest amount of people to listen is when his son was named “Jesus”. So what is the one true religion? What do you believe?

A real message of truth from our Divine Creator...!

Message that is so true...
Always stick with what makes perfect sence and can be backed up with physical proof. Don't believe in anything, either know it or don't.
Beliefs are based on second hand information which forms speculation and is subject to change.
Knowledge is gained from first hand information through personal experience which is unquestioned and completly understood, undeniable proof of truth.
Don't play into any kind of religious idealistic brain washing manipulation.
Anything spiritually based that is gained second hand, is confusing and in some way or another makes a profit, isn't the truth and not the real deal.
The spirit of the soul is inlimited and free. Having a known connection with the powerful energy that created all that exists in our known physical rhelm, is personal to the individual and that connection has no boundries ,stipulations and is not set on any kind of conditional guidlines, nor are there rules and regulations that have to be followed inorder to know that powerful endless connection. The energy of the Divine is inside us all and exists in everything that exists.
Makes a lot more sence to me. My connction with God is known and unquestioned, it's a constant and infinite flow of energy completely unconditional and without fear. I trust in that which designed me for a specific purpose in this world. That guides my soul and knows the pure of my heart. For the Divine power of all knowing makes my heart beat and connects me to a beautiful view and understanding of myself.......
The love of life and power of us is knowing what is in the depths of our soul's purpose..

March for Freedom....or is it a set up?

This sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of passover.....It's also when the many mexican commuities will march against the ruling of a new law that makes it a felon to not have a green card....this is happening this weekend all over these United States......Did the govenment set this up? ........Watch and see what happens.....
hopefully nothing...but could this be planned....is this when the shit is going to hit the fan..?
I just know that I have a very bad feeling in the pit of my stomach...and I know who the enemy is......100,000 people are planned to march here in Dallas........I hope my gut instinct is wrong.....I really, really hope it is...but I don't put anything past those fucker and what they are capable of........we'll just have to wait and see....

A Simple Sacrement

Since the ULC doesn't present us with a prescribed set of sacrements; I thought that I would propose that we follow the suggestion of Dr. Masaru Emoto. I will be commiting myself to this sacramental offering each month. Please let me know what you are given to know and feel about it.

The Water Within Us

Sending peace and love to water changes its energy. Could this prayer also affect the water that circulates in each of us?

We are well into the twenty-first century, and blood continues to be shed. Especially painful to watch is the conflict between Palestine and Israel. How much life will have to be destroyed by ethnic fighting and holy war? Without an end to this horrendous conflict, it is hard to imagine a peaceful future for any of us. But it appears as if the hatred and loathing has over centuries slowly entered the very DNA of the two sides.

I was once thinking about this when I suddenly realized the close relationship between DNA and water. DNA is structured by two chains in a spiral formed by a hydrogen bond. The consciousness of our ancestors is passed from one generation to the next through blood—the water that circulates throughout our bodies. And the water that flows through the bodies of the Jews and Palestinians comes mostly from the Jordan River. The Jordan River flows southward from northern Palestine and connects the Sea of Galilee with the Dead Sea, forming the eastern border of Palestine. Along its way, it provides much of the water necessary for sustaining life in the region.

The power of prayer has the ability to reach far distances of space and time. Through the photographs of water crystals, I have strived to help people from around the world understand the power and wonder of prayer, and I have encouraged people everywhere to pray for peace in the world. I decided that I would ask people to join together on a particular day to send hado (vibration) of love and peace to the Sea of Galilee, which flows into the Jordan River. The people who drink its water would receive this hado, and their bodies would be filled with beautiful energy. Can you just imagine the possibilities for peace?

Before I set the date, I discovered something quite surprising. Another name for the Sea of Galilee is Lake Kinneret, and kinneret, in Hebrew, is the word for harp—the shape of the Sea of Galilee. And it also happens that Lake Biwa is named after the biwa, a traditional harp-like instrument in Japan. Could the similarity be more than a coincidence?

I decided to set the day for the special prayer for July 25, 2003. This day is very important on the thirteen-month calendar used by the Mayans. It is called “the day out of time,” the one extra day on the Mayan calendar.

Even in this modern age, perhaps we have the spirit of this day buried within us. I intend to work toward making this an international day of prayer for expressing love and appreciation for water.

A year prior to the date I set for sending hado to the Sea of Galilee, I established what I call the Project of Love and Thanks to Water. This was a project aimed at unifying the souls of people from around the world and raising consciousness on July 25, 2003. My first efforts focused on expanding the circle of people willing to participate in the prayer.

I asked everyone I knew to do the following: On the 25th of each month, either at 7:25 in the morning or 7:25 in the evening, face a body of water and express your love and appreciation. You could do this anywhere, such as your kitchen or your bedroom. A glass of water would suffice. Gently say to the water, “I love you” and “Thank you.” As you do this, imagine the power of love and appreciation flowing through you into all of the water of the world.

All water, even the glass of water, is connected to all the rest of the water in the rest of the world. The hado of love and appreciation that you release will become streams of brilliant gold and silver light in the flowing water and reach out to the entire world, ultimately covering it in light. The result will be a testimony of the healing and harmonizing of our planet.

Water carries within it your thoughts and your prayers. And as you yourself are water, no matter where you are, your prayers will be carried to the rest of the world. So, pray. Pray for the victims of meaningless wars and landmines, for orphaned children, for the sick and the bedridden. There is much you can do from now on, and even a lot you can do at this very moment.

I recall that horrible recurring dream I saw as a small child. It wasn’t warning me about my fate to witness the gloom and doom of the human race. It was teaching me what I must do in life. But it wasn’t a lesson for me alone. It was for you and for everyone else who reads this book: Fill your soul with love and gratitude. Pray for the world. Share the message of love. And let us flow as long as we live.

June 21 and the choice of Life or Death

I, Chief Arvol Looking Horse of the Lakota, Dakota and
Nakota Nations, would like to ask for this time for you to
understand an Indigenous perspective in reflection of what has

Our people have strived to protect Sacred Sites from
the beginning of time. There needs to be an understanding in
the concern of the protection of Sacred Sites that goes deeper
than just the issue of Shrines built by humans.

Our people have built similar objects and Shrines to
identify and to remind the significance in the power of the
Sacred Site. We have also witnessed them being destroyed for
many decades, but we also realize it is what is underneath them
that is important.

These places have been violated for centuries and have
brought us to this predicament that we are in concerning the
unstable Global Level thus far. Look around you, our Mother
Earth is very ill from these violations and we are at a brink
of destroying a healthy and nurturing survival for generations
to come, our children's children.

Our ancestors have been trying to protect our Sacred
Site from the continued violations called the Sacred Black
Hills in SD, "Heart of Everything that is".

Our ancestors never seen this site from a Satellite
view, but now that those pictures are available with modern
technology, we see that it is in the shape of a heart and when
fast forwarded it looks like a heart pumping. The Dine have
been protecting Big Mountain, calling it the liver and now that
the coal is depleting, we are suffering and going to suffer
more from the extraction of the coal and poison processes used
in doing so.

The Aborigines has warned of the contaminating effects
on the Corral Reefs from Global Warming, which they see as
Mother Earth's blood purifier, our sacred water is being
polluted.

The Indigenous people of the Rain Forest relay that the
Rain Forest are the lungs and need protection and now we see
the Brazilian Government approved the depletion of 50% of this
Sacred Site.

The Gwich'in Nation has an issue of oil drilling in the
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain, also known to
the Gwich'in as 'Where the life begins!' The coastal plain is
also the birthplace of many other life forms of Animal Nations.
The death of these Animal Nations will destroy Indigenous
Nations in this territory.

As these destructive developments continue all over the
world, we will witness many more extinct Animal, Plant and
Human Nations, because of the misuse of power that mankind has
made and their lack of understanding the "balance of life".

The Indigenous people warn that these destructive
developments will cause havoc globally. There are many, many
more Indigenous awareness's and knowledge of Mother Earth's
Sacred Sites, connections (Mother Earth's Charkas) to our
spirit that will surely affect our future generations.

These people are still suffering from this
contamination and their livelihood is being destroyed as I
write this to you.

There needs to be a fast move toward other forms of
energy that are safe for all Nations upon Mother Earth. We need
to understand the whole picture in the type of minds that are
continuing to destroy the spirit of our whole Global Community.

Unless we do this, the powers of destruction will
overwhelm us.

Our Ancestors foretold that water would someday be for
sale. Back then this was hard to believe, since the water was
so plentiful, so pure, and so full of energy, nutrition and
spirit. Today we have to buy pure water, and even then the
nutritional minerals have been taken out; it's just empty
liquid.

Someday water will be like gold, too expensive to
afford. Not everyone will have the right to drink safe water.

We fail to appreciate and honor our Sacred Sites,
ripping out the minerals and gifts that lay underneath them, as
if Mother Earth were simply a resource, instead of the Source
of Life itself.

Attacking Nations and having to utilize more resources
to carry out the destruction in the name of Peace and
elimination is not the answer!

We need to understand how all these decisions affects
the Global Nation, we will not be immune to it's repercussions.

To allow continual contamination of our food and land,
is now affecting the way we think.

A "disease of the mind" has set in World Leaders and
many members of our Global Community, with their understanding
that a solution of retaliation and destruction of peoples will
bring Peace.

In our Prophecies it is told that we are now at the
Crossroads, either unite Spiritually as a Global Nation, or be
faced with chaos, disasters, diseases and tears from our
relatives eyes.

In times of disasters it is sad to say, that it is the
only time that we unite spiritually, but we must not taint it
with anger and retaliation. We are the only species that is
destroying the Source of life, meaning Mother Earth, in the
name of power, mineral resources and ownership of land, using
methods of chemicals and warfare that is becoming irreversible,
as Mother Earth is becoming tired and can not sustain any more
impacts of war.

I ask you to join me on this endeavor.

Our vision is for the Peoples of all continents,
regardless of their beliefs in the Creator, to come together as
one at their Sacred Sites at that sacred moment of what is
known as the Summer Solstice of June 21st, to pray and meditate
and commune with one another, thus promoting an energy shift to
heal our Mother Earth and achieve a universal consciousness
toward attaining Peace.

As each day passes bringing us to this day of
concentration together, I ask the Global Nations to begin a
Global effort, in knowing that each and every one of us are
making a daily effort in waking to a gratitude of another day,
that is gifted to us and begin to remember to give thanks for
the Sacred Food that has been also gifted to us by our Mother
Earth, so the nutritional energy of medicine can be guided to
heal our minds and spirits.

This new millennium will usher in an age of harmony or
it will bring the end of life as we know it. Starvation, war
and toxic waste have been the hallmark of the Great Myth of
Progress and Development that ruled the last millennium.

To us, as caretakers of the heart of Mother Earth,
falls the responsibility of turning back the powers of destruction.

We have come to a time and place of great urgency.

The fate of future generations rests in our hands.

We must understand the two ways we are free to follow,
as we choose the positive way or the negative way.. the
spiritual way or the material way.

It's our own choice--each of ours and all of ours.

You yourself are the one who must decide.

You alone-and only you--can make this crucial choice.
Whatever you decide is what you'll be, to walk in honor
or to dishonor your relatives.

You can't escape the consequences of your own decision.
On your decision depends the fate of the entire World.
You must decide. You can't avoid it.

Each of us is put here in this time and this place to
personally decide the future of humankind.

Did you think the Creator would create unnecessary
people in a time of such terrible danger?

Know that you yourself are essential to this World.

Believe that!

Understand both the blessing and the burden of that.
You yourself are desperately needed to save the soul of this
World.

Did you think you were put here for something less? In
a Sacred Hoop of Life, where there is no beginning and no
ending!

How excellent this tribe exists. I've been a ULC minister for years and did a legal marriage in San Francisco which recognized it as valid and all.

I have recently started The Worldwide Church of Polytheism. I hope you will join and bring all your gods. We are trying to be open to inventiveness. One person has already suggested including a bacterial god in our pantheon and another found a nice picture to match the concept. Any suggestions you might have are warmly welcomed.

Wedding complete

Perfomed a wedding ceremony last night that went great. Thought I would share with my fellow ULCers. Small group (15), private room at a restaurant, very relaxed. Did a nice mix of traditional marriage, with a twist of native american (bride). Filmed it so I can work on delivery (I think I read too much and don't speak directly).

Anyway, great time and always fun to see two people so happy - and to be a part of it!!

Hello my Co-religionists! or non-religionists, as the case may be. I need your help!

I've done 3 weddings for friends & am about to take the Big Plunge of advertising myself as an Officiant & actually charging $ for it - partly for fun, partly to pay off the credit card debt from my own wedding.

ANYWAY, I wanted to buy some books so I'd have resources to turn to when developing ceremonies for couples - any suggestions? Here are a few I'm considering - which do you think look better?

A CHRISTIAN SPEAKS ON THE FAITH AND PATH OF WICCA

I am a Christian and not a Wiccan. A Christian is one who has been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and who has made a personal, free-will decision to commit himself and all his or her life to our Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Both of these things are true of me. Although I am a Greek Orthodox Christian, in this paper I am not speaking as agent for any church but am, entirely on my own responsibility, speaking the truth in love, as we Christians are supposed to do.

A Situation of Strife and Shame:

There are many Christians today who believe that anyone who is not a Christian is doomed to an eternity of suffering in hell. Any decent person, believing this, would be compelled to try to save as many people from this fate as possible. But is this belief correct? Jesus Christ, having noted the faith and righteousness of a Roman centurion, a Pagan, proclaimed:

"Assuredly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 8:10-12)

If we accept these words as true, and surely we should, then it is clear that heaven will contain many who are not Christians, and hell will contain many who are! Clearly, throughout the Gospels, Jesus Christ sets forth the criteria for entrance into the kingdom of heaven, and those criteria include love, kindness, forgiveness, and a refusal to judge others:
"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14-15)
"For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you." (Matthew 7:2)
"But go and learn what this means: `I desire mercy and not sacrifice.'" (Matthew 9:13)
"Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." (Luke 6:36-38)

Is it not clear? Anyone who fails in these things, will calling himself a Christian save him? Anyone who obeys God in these things, will being unbaptized condemn him? Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

In addition to these words from the Gospel, let us look at the words of Micah the Prophet, centuries earlier, who wrote:
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:6-8)

Where, in any of this, does it say what doctrines one is to believe, or whose teachings concerning reality one must accept? All these things speak on how one ACTS, how one lives one's life, the kind of person one's actions gradually bring into being.

Yet it is not by good works that we earn our way into heaven, because there is no way we can earn the free gift of God's mercy and grace, which alone can save us. But it is clear that it is not by faith, in the sense of sharing the Christian faith, that we are saved, either. The faith which saves us is not faith in the goodness of our works, nor faith that we have the right theology and/or belong to the right church. Rather, it is faith in God, and in His mercy:
"So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy." (Romans 9:16)

But the Wiccans, you will say, do not have faith in God. Yet by their own theology, they certainly do. Those who call them Satan-worshippers are entirely wrong. They do not worship Satan, or even believe that Satan exists. Instead, they worship a Goddess and a God whom they understand as manifestations of a higher and unknown Deity.

Now if you are a Christian, this will sound familiar to you, and it should. In the Bible we find the following:
"Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, `Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you" (Acts 17:22-23)

The Wiccans worship the Unknown God, as manifested to them in the form of a Goddess and a God. Therefore, our Bible tells us they worship the same God we do; and if they do not know this, we should know it!

For those of us who are unable to simply stand on God's Word, and must prove to themselves the truth of what it proclaims the holy Apostle John has given us the method for doing this. You have only to attend any public Wiccan ceremony, and test the spirits which are there, to see "whether they are of God" (1 John 4:1).

You will find that, while you may perceive the power manifested there as less than what you have experienced as a Christian, that power is clearly the power of God.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, these people of Wicca have been terribly slandered by us. They have lost jobs, and homes, and places of business because we have assured others that they worship Satan, which they do not. We have persecuted them, and God will hold us accountable for this, you may be sure, for He has said,
"Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." (Matthew 25:40)

Let us, from this point onward, repent of our misdeeds and declare that henceforth we shall obey Christ our God, and not judge others or condemn them, so that He will not have to judge and condemn us for our sins.

Traditional Roles of Ministers

These are four of the more obvious traditional roles of a minister (servant):

1) Priest
2) Pastor
3) Preacher
4) Prophet

A priest is someone who represents the holy, someone who serves as a liaison, someone who establishes connections between the sacred world and the prophane world--it doesn't necessarily mean an intermediary, the way I was taught that priests (and also the Blessed Virgin Mary and priests) did when I was a Roman Catholic child.

In this way, a priestly function can fairly be compared to a shamanic function, though the word "priest" works better for my mnemonic device.

Being a priest is a way of caring for the spiritual life of one's congregation, whoever it may be.

A pastor is a shepherd, a watcher of the flock in the fields, Pastoring is the most obviously nurturing function of a minister. When we refer to "pastoral counseling," we are usually referring to the role of comforter.

Being a pastor is a way of caring for the emotional life of one's congregation.

A preacher is a teacher, but one who teaches by telling, not just by example. The preacherly function is not at all the same as the monastic function of going about serving quietly, behind the scenes, though serving quietly behind the scenes is a way of walking one's talk. Still, while actions speak louder than words, preaching definitely involves words.

Preaching provides the theory that dances with the practice.

Being a preacher is a way of caring for the intellectual life of one's congregation.

Many ministers consider their work to be similar to what journalist Finley Peter Dunne once said to be the job of a newspaper: "to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable."

Pastoring is about comforting, and preaching--and its corrollary, prophecy--are about afflicting.

The words "preach" and "prophesy" have, at their roots, similar meanings, namely, to tell forth.

I think of prophecy as being more concerned with morals and ethics than with teaching per se. Prophecy isn't divination so much as warning: If you continue to live your life in this way, this is likely to happen. It's about prediction sometimes, yes, but not in the sense of fortune-telling. It's more like forecasting--as a meteorologist or sports commentator might do in their fields.

Being a prophet is a way of caring for the volitional life--the will--of one's congregation.

There's a short course in roles of ministers. What I've said here is a distillation of my final sermon in my preaching class in seminary.

This works for me. If it works for you, more power to you. If not, I hope it provides incentive for you to decide what does work for you.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the group, but have been a ULC since 2000. I wanted to offer up a suggestion. Since most of us do perform weddings, what do you think about posting to the reccommendations and the wedding planning groups that there are ministers available right here on Tribe?

I would guess that a lot of the people who use Tribe, would be the same people who are looking for something a little less traditional for their wedding ceremonies.

What is everyone's opinions on promotion of our services?

First wedding

I've got a beautiful source for vows (the prophet, used in Mark and Caroline's recent wedding), and I can do the ritual ceremonials,

when i married my sister and her husband, both he and i called the county to see if i needed to register with them...they said no to both of us...now, months later, after the license and all have been issued, they are giving us grief! so be sure, be sure, be sure to know EXACTLY what you need to have in order prior to the ceremony.

the only saving grace was that i had written down the name of the person that i spoke with, otherwise, it would have been null.
